Kim Riley
Decorative Painting Instructor
For the last 15 years I have been making a living as a decorative painter and teacher of this art form. They say if you do what you love then you never work a day in your life. I have been taking classes from amazing teachers that are masters at their craft. I came home from each of those classes, practiced till I was happy with the look and then painted the homes of all my friends and relatives. I had enough walls to keep me busy for a while all along perfecting my skill. Everyone wanted to know how these techniques were done so I put them to work and in a short time they were creating works of art too. Now I paint walls to look like leather, floors to look like marble and counter tops like glass or granite.
I love to teach students to do the same. Just take a minute and look at the walls at the Leon Lynch Center. They were painted by very talented students in the Faux Finishing class ( Faux means Fake in French). I am very proud of the work they did so much so that I had then carve their name in the walls. Look carefully and you might recognize some of them. I had 15 different jobs before I finally started painting for a living. Who knew… It is never too late to start on a new adventure.
